1 John 3:18
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

In these verses, John is telling the believers to help one another when one is in need.  Reinforcing the fact that Christians are to behave as family to each other.  We are not called to just give money to those in need, but our time.  Every body of believers has someone who maybe just needs a brother or sister in Christ to talk to.  It may be a widow who for the first time in 60 yrs finds herself alone and lonely.  Or a single parent who just needs someone to watch the kids so groceries can be bought in peace.  There are so many ways that we can assist our fellow siblings in Christ if we just open our eyes and look.  When we listen to the Holy Spirit inside, He will guide us to those areas where we can help out.  Don’t always wait to be asked, offer to help!

Talk is indeed cheap, we are to backup our “spiritual speech” with Christ-like attitudes and actions.

1 Corinthians 13:1 states this fact where it says that if a person claims to be spiritual yet has not love they are like a clanging cymbal.  No one can hear what is being said because the actions are so unloving that the words are drowned out!  God desires for His children to be genuine not false.  How would we want to be treated?  Would we want someone to say “I love you” and then act as though they don’t?  It is good for us to help others and in doing so being unselfish, we are putting the good of others before ourselves and that is what God calls us to do.

We should look to Jesus, when He was on this earth He went about doing good.  He healed the sick and fed the people.  He gave His life for us out of love, He backed up His talk with the walk. His life was hallmarked by true and genuine LOVE, we as His children should have lives that mirror His.

Thank You Jesus for loving me! I love You so my precious Redeemer. Help me to be aware of the needs of those around me and to love others with Your love this day, for Your glory my Savior, Amen!
